Crazy Autokap in Davis Strait

Crazy Autokap in Davis Strait Davis Strait
Image by Pierre Lesage Sailing north on the MV/ Lyubov Orlava in the Davis strait close to the arctic circle, wind was registered at 45 knots with guts at 50... Pretty good conditions for an AutoKap torture test... The Kiwi delta fishing kite was up in a few seconds and flew beautifully... Not the type of gentle flight, (and no slack line with this type of wind) more on the really wild side... The top of the delta was not up but parallel to the ocean, traction on the line was incredibly strong and the pulley was not enough to bring the beast down, luckily a few passengers on board were happy to help! On two occasions, I really thought the delta would dive with the autokap rig and camera but it remained in the air. If you want to try crazy Autokap in strong winds the Kiwi Delta fishing kite is THE KITE you need ! Not sure I will try the experience again as it really put stress on the kite, the line and my arms! 45-50 knots NE wind - Paul's fishing kite - Ricoh GX 100 with wide angle converter- 130 Kilos Cousin Trestec Dyneema line - Custom designed Autokap rig by Brooks Leffler.(Thanks Brooks, this rig really flies well !!)
